I live in Northwest (Chevy Chase Circle) and ride a TerraTrike
Rambler Until a recent spate of (unrelated to bicycling)
injuries, I was a regular rider to my office downtown. <br>
<br>
While I didn't feel any less safe than when I rode a V-REX or
Rocket (the best urban commuting bike I've ever ridden), I
didn't feel I had the quickness or maneuverability that I had
when in congestion. With a "wingspan" of 36 or so inches, you
can't ride between cars stopped in traffic. On the other hand, I
felt a lot safer taking the lane whenever possible. <br>
<br>
One other item to consider. If you ride downtown, be aware that
there is no standard distance between sidewalk bollards, and in
(too) many locations (Lafayette Park across from the White
House, as an example) it is a tight squeeze to get through!<br>
<br>
Regards of what you do, festoon yourself with bright lights and
flags and an AirZound horn!<br>
